Advising is essential to helping students stay motivated and persist in setting and achieving their education and career goals. Effective advising is more than establishing student education and career goals. Advising also involves assessing the supports and barriers students encounter on their pathway and connecting students to organizations that can help address them. It also entails collaborating with instructors to help students develop effective personal, college and career readiness, and workforce preparation skills.
The SABES Program Support PD Center offers PD, peer sharing and learning, resources, and guidance to support effective AE advising on topics such as: mental health first aid; motivational interviewing; college and career navigation; orientation for new advisors; and integrating technology.
See the Calendar and Resource Library sections for advising PD and resources.
