Innovations & Society (FOCUS: Second Industrial Revolution) explores the events and changes within the United States related to the inventions, technologies, and advances that transformed the growing United States from an agriculturally based economy to the industrial giant it became. The unit can be taught as part of a series of units that progress from early colonization of the United States, or it can be taught as a free-standing unit. It can also be part of a larger unit that focuses on the Gilded Age.
A full unit plan is accessible below and provides in-depth information about the unit. Two lesson plans from the unit are also fully developed and included here. The unit and lesson plans use the current ACLS-approved ELA curriculum templates. In addition, the Lesson Flow (with Abbreviated Lesson Plans) offers information about how each lesson flows and how key instructional standards and topics are developed across lessons.
